The Genesee Theatre re-opened its doors on December 3, 2004 to two sold out performances of Bill Cosby, and will continue to provide the highest quality of performances including comedians, Broadway productions and national and regional musical acts. The Genesee Theatre is located in downtown Waukegan, originally a commercial port city and later an industrial center; it is now the seat of Lake County. Within short distance to Chicago and Milwaukee, and home to a culturally rich and diverse population, the city is poised for a dramatic comeback.

"A very large former movie palace, now beautifully restored and available for live performances. The acoustics and sight-lines from every part of the house were excellent for the Mariachi opera, "Cruzar la Cara de la Luna" for a packed and enthusiastic audience. A well-stocked bar in the front ad..."ded to the convivial atmosphere before the performance.

"Hate to admit it, but I remember when this theater was reduced to projecting porn (when it was "fashionable," in the '70s). Next, I caught a spirited (and quite good) gospel shout-out. Today, the theater has been remodeled into a Mecca for citizens (downtown Waukegan had become an empty, ghostly, ..."threatening--esp. to people distrusting minority groups--environment, virtually written off and forgotten by the majority of citizens claiming the city as their home. The Genesee Theatre (please spell it "Theater"--cut the pretense, please) has been the single most important development to change that, attracting thousands of people with shows that are guaranteed to spark recognition (celebrity pop performers) and appeal to a wide cross-section.

"What a fun, modern, well organized gallery. I grew up in Waukegan and went back recently to check out the downtown art spaces and new restaurants, including Big Ed's and their music scene. Now I see what the buzz is about. I used the gallery's web page press articles to find out more about the histo..."ry of Dandelion Gallery. Thanks for giving visitors and residents alike more to enjoy for improving the downtown atmosphere!
