Trama Textiles is a 100% women owned association of backstrap weavers. The cooperative represents 400 indigenous women, in 17 groups from five different regions of Guatemalas highlands. Trama Textiles was formed in 1988 following years of civil war in which many fathers, husbands, brothers and children “disappeared”.Trama means “the weaving thread” and is interchangeable with the word “comida” or food. Weavings are a sense of identity for the people of the Guatemala’s highlands.Each group has its own distinct patterns and color traditions. That is why you see such diversity amoungst Trama products!We specialize in handmade fabrics using the ancient art of backstrap loom weaving . We use pre-washed, 100%, first grade quality cotton for all our products, producing unique high quality pieces.
