The Oude Libertas winery is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa and houses the oldest and most established and picturesque amphitheatre in Stellenbosch. The open-air amphitheatre was opened in 1977 by the world renowned Russian pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy. The mostly Spanish architecture of the theatre, inspired by the Tarragon Amphitheatre in Spain and the Veakion Amphitheatre in Piraeus, Greece, adds to the splendorous setting. We offer trail rides just outside Stellenbosch with horses which are trained according to natural horsemanship methods and have natural lifestyles. We ride over Stellenbosch wine farms through the vineyards and fynbos to the top of the historical Bottelary hills. Throughout there are magnificent views of Stellenbosch, its mountains, False Bay and even Table Mountain. We offer special outings which can include picnics, wine-tasting or watching a spectacular sunrise or sunset.

"For a long time I considered Stark-Conde my own hidden secret! I run tours and discovered Jose and his wines about 5 years ago. I have been a groupie ever since! This is a small family owned vineyard that delivers some of the best quality wine in the country. This would be enough for me to visit..." regularly, however they also have one of the most beautiful settings in the winelands. The winery is located slightly off the beaten track in the Jonkershoek Valley. It lies in a valley between majestic mountains - the setting is actually jaw dropping! Seriously I know it sounds too goofy - but please visit and let me know your thoughts! The wine tasting centre is located in the middle of a dam in a balinese wooden house. Here Carmen and her team will make you feel extremely welcome! Do not leave without trying the entire range of cabs and shiraz's. Tip - at the moment you can buy older vintages. In South Africa the only way you get older vintages is to actually store them yourself ...

"I really enjoyed visiting the wine regions of Stellensbosch using the Vinehopper. On the day we were there, it was the wineries on the Northern route that were visited. As we started after 12pm, we could not visit all 6 wineries but this was not an issue at all.
The driver Clayton was very helpfu..."l and made useful recommendations about which wineries to visit/ where to eat lunch.
I would definitely recommend the Vinehopper. It was very relaxing visiting the vineyards knowing that no one of our group had to drive.
