We are semi-experienced East Coast hikers, but had never hiked in the West and had never been backpacking. On their website, JRI promised a one-of-a-kind experience, and they really delivered! We were pic..."ked up from our hotel in Phoenix very early the first morning, and driven in a comfortable van to the South Rim. As far as I know, JRI is the only tour company that will pick you up in Phoenix. Furthermore, JRI provided us with top-notch gear, including a sleeping kit and mess kit, and good trekking poles. Once we hit the trail, we were in the hands of our guide Steve, who turned out to be a stellar guide. He gave out plenty of helpful tips on hiking down, through, and out of the canyon, and was always making sure that we were comfortable and having a good time.
