Things to do in Alor Setar - Tourist Places in Alor Setar
"The tower offers a great view of the city. The best time to go would be just before sun set, when you can watch the lights come on. The transition from daylight to night can be captured on camera which is beautiful to look at later. "
"Zahir mosque was built several hundred years ago. It is situated at the centre of Alor Setar city, and is the main mosque in this city which is open for muslim prayers everyday. Routine muslim prayers are conducted here.
The main attraction here is the architecture. It is built in Indonesian styl..."e and seems to be very detailed and complicated. It is an heaven for photographers. However i dont think you are allowed to take photo inside the mosque. The best view is from across the road whereby you can fit the entire mosque view into your camera frame. And the best time is during sunset to night as the lights which light this building gives a heavenly look.
As this is a place of worship, it is mainly used for prayers and to maintain its holiness, visitors are restricted from entering into the mosque, other than for prayers.
As you visit this mosque, dont forget to visit other historical places right in front of it such as the "Balai Besar",and art gellery (balai seni).

Restaurants here sell mainly Malay style food but not many restaurant here. Some shops dont maintain cleanliness, so be careful when you choose a restaurant. If you come here, dont forget to buy back a local traditional food called "dodol".
Try to bargain before purchasing anything here especially clothes and handicra...
