BALYOLU (sounds like “Ball-yoll-ew”) is Turkish for “The road of honey.” The Balyolu is a network of nomadic walking routes for travelers to taste and explore the wild culture, environment, and tradition of beekeeping and honey in Eastern Anatolia. As the Silk Road once linked people, cultures, and ideas, Balyolu builds unique honey experiences connecting the environment, small honey producers, and you.A Balyolu trip combines natural experiences with agriculture, people, culture, tradition, cooking, and history to give you the true taste of a local place. Our trips are intimate – capped at 6 guests with expert guides. Our trips are authentic – with a combination of home-stays and boutique hotel accommodations. Most of all our trips are locally and socially good. We work with local guides, operators, villages, and TURSAB certified companies to make sure your experience is one that spreads good vibes and benefits the local community. Finally, approximately 70% of your trip cost goes to local entrepreneurs, villages, and women leaders. The route is the same for each adventure, however the seasons will change the scenery dramatically. Your travel fee includes customized assistance booking your itinerary to and from Kars, Turkey where each trip will begin.

"Bring a picnic and plan on spending all day here! There are so many different buildings to explore, and they are in excellent condition. Don't miss the round church right next to the river. You have to climb down to see it (bring yu hiking shoes) but it is well worth it. "
"One of the most interesting things about visiting the Ani ruins is that this place is located at the border between Armenia and Turkey. so you could literally say you've been in two places at the same time!
The landscapes are absolutely beautiful - with beautiful mountains (about 3000m altitude) an..."d wonderful ruins of what used to be an old city from the 9th century in Armenia. You can see cathedrals, many churches and a very beautiful mosque which are in very good condition.
This place is located at about 40 km from Kars city.
It's a pretty big attraction, so be equiped to walk and climb a lot.
