The Sanur Beach Promenade is lined with brightly painted outrigger boats along the water's edge, and good restaurants and cafes opposite. Treat yourself to a massage offered by one of the many masseuses with divans on the sand. If you're there in July, catch the Bali Kite Festival, a colorful international competition.

This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

"A walking path all the way along, lovely white beach, plenty of coffee shops and food cafes. Stalls selling their wares and we were not hassled. Watched the local fishermen which proved very interesting. No dislikes here at all."
"At the last moment I rang around hoping to do an Indonesian cooking class the next day. Several places told me that they only took bookings of 2 people or more. But to my delight Dewi said she was happy to run the class just for me.
Dewi picked me up from my hotel, took me on a shopping visit to th..."e market to buy ingredients and show me other food stuffs. Fascinating and so nice to be able to ask questions and sample foods.
The cooking class was great- a lovely set up outside, the gas burners cooking up treats on the clean industrial kitchen benches. We cooked around 5 or 6 different dishes which were delicious and a treat to eat for lunch. Dewi was happy to change the recipe for me- swapping fish to calamari. A big thanks.
We talked, we chopped, we smelt, we tasted and I had a lovely few hours learning about spices, the importance of grinding ingredients and combining flavors.
I would recommend this cooking class to anyone with an interest in food- very hands on and engaging.
