Fort Jesus is Mombasa’s most popular tourist attraction. The fort, located along the coastline near the Old Town, is a monumental piece of architecture that was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. The fort has a museum that displays various artifacts from the era where Mombasa served as a transit point for the slave trade and commodities, and which enjoyed regular visits by seafarers and the like.

"We are currently working with Bombollulo who are making a range of bags and jewelery for us and so we have just returned from our second visit. This is one of the most worthwhile projects I have visited. It provides a secure and peaceful home and workplace to its unbelievable crafters who both live..." on the premises and come to work there. The people are all highly skilled and so fabulous to be around. The restaurant fed us fantastically every day and our 10 hour days there in the hot humidity of Mombassa past very memorably. If you do one thing besides a safari in Kenya please visit Bombollulo and buy your gifts in the their shop. Supporting this organisation is one of the best things you can do.

"Good visit for either morning or afternoon. You can pick up a guide once inside the Park but I took one of my old Kenyan friends. I especially liked feeding the giraffes but the monkeys steal all the bits off the floor that is dropped. The large tortoise are approximately 125 years old and just ambl..."e along and eat. There is a huge crocodile in the water area and when its feeding time they all congregate. If you are lucky the hippos come out of the water at feeding time too.
