"Went on this rail trip having been on the Durango to Silverton the year before.... Great trip, a few mile of scrub dessert and then into the mountains.. The scenery is amazing. We went from Antonito and didn't go all the way through to Chama. We stopped at Osier for lunch and then did the return tra..."in journey. We were enjoying the beauty of a steam train ride and didnt want to use the bus for a return trip from Chama..
All in all a wonderful adventure for this English, Colorado loving girl.... :)

"My wife and I, having spent several summers working in the San Luis Valley, have ridden the C&TS 15 times (yes fifteen), between 1998 and 2006. In the earlier days (1998-2000) the tracks were in serious need on maintenance and the ride was rough & tumble and even more exciting than now. So, we got into Chama, late one cold October night. we grabbed a place to stay. and then off to the rail road in the morning. we..." chose to bus to Antonito, Colorado and then train back to Chama, NM. the bus ride was awesome and we saw sights that you wouldn't see on the train (because they go on the roads, not the track). the autumn colors were still there but we missed the peak turn of the aspens and cottonwoods by about two weeks. The gift store in Antonito, CO was great (and lots on sale due to "end of the season:).. we boarded the train and headed back into the 1800's. the train was incredible!! fully restored to it's glory, we were in first class, tin roofs, hot drinks, food, great views. the crew were knowledgeable and friendly and boy, did they know their history of the train and the area. the half way...
