The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

"Compared to the bigger boat that does the same trip, we thought the smaller boat would be a better bet and we were not disappointed. Greeted with a glass of local wine( or soda / juice for the kids), we then heard about how Murphy "the dolphin dog" could sense the dolphins before most people could ..."see them and sure enough he was soon out on the bow of the boat as the dolphins came into view. Hector's Dolphins are smaller and rarer than Bottlenose dolphins and appears to spend less time on the surface than their larger cousins making photographing them bait harder. Highlight of the trip for me was the amazing colours of the volcanic cliffs outside the harbour. Highlight for my daughter was the large basket of homemade cookies that came around halfway through the trip

"Ive been out on 3 previous trips in the stunning Akaroa harbour but never before with Akaroa Dolphin group (dont get me wrong, their competitor is great too!!) and there were some extra little touches that made it really special. It is a smaller boat, more family feel to it and I like that. They o..."ffer a complimentary drink once aboard (nice touch!) - quality wine, beer, fruit juice - and some home baking towards the end of the trip (again, nice!). There were things in the middle too that were great - Murphy the Dolphin Dog (a dedicated worker), offering binoculars for those of us not smart enough to pre-pack them (me!), offering extra warm weather coats and the family touch of the captain having his little ones aboard with us (thanks to Will, the first officer! Hope you found your hat or at least got another one). We then stayed over in accommodation which was run by the lady who had written Murphy's book - complete coincidence but a lovely way to round the day. Thank you so much...

"My children and I had such a wonderful time on the Akaroa Dolphins cruise. The children got to meet the awesome Murphy sea dog who I think is second in charge and is famous for dolphin spotting and even has a book written about his adventures! We were all amazed at the wildlife that we got to see. T..."he Hector Dolphins, Yellow Eyed Penguins high up in the nest on the cliff, Seal's, amazing sea birds and sometimes we hear you can be lucky enough to see a whale - not today!! Craig the skipper kept us highly entertained with an interesting and informative commentary about the harbour. So now we know a little bit more about the Maori Marae, the native bush, the farmland, the volcanic rock, the wildlife, Akaroa the French settlement and the beautiful hidden spots you can only visit by sea. All of this while enjoying a yummy glass of wine on a sunny winters day - what more can a mum ask for!!! (oh yea the kids said "don't forget we got lemonade and a chocolate chip biscuit")
