While street performers entertain outside, those wanting a more cultural experience can head into the Museum of Contemporary Art where a sculpture garden on the roof is as much a view as the waterways below.

It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

Built in 1858 Sydney Observatory is a fascinating heritage site and public observatory. 90 minute Night tours include telescope viewing and a 3d Space Theatre experience with a planetarium experience in cloudy weather. Day tours include solar viewing (weather permitting) and a 3d Space Theatre in a 30 minute tour. Entry to the Observatory is free during the day, tours are a small extra charge but well worth it to experience modern astronomy and solar viewing with an astronomer. Night tours must be booked and prepaid.

The Welcome Wall is actually part of the Maritime Museum but deserves to be a tourist attraction in its own right. It stands separate from the Museum, in the open air on Darling Harbour. It's free of charge, unlike the Museum and is a record of the Immigration History with stories and diary extracts from the first convict ships right up to the current day. A fascinating attraction but because it's officially part of the Museum gets forgotten about in tourist brochures.
