"The National Zoo and Aquarium is very family-friendly, but we went just as a (mature!) couple and had a wonderful time. The layout is user-friendly - not too hilly and you don't have to trek miles to see all that is on offer - and all the animals are obviously well-housed, fed and cared-for. We par..."ticularly enjoyed the 'stories' that went with many animals, as they added to our interest and understanding of animal breeding and behaviour, but children would love being able to get up close and personal to so many creatures, with well-advertised feeding and meet-and-greet sessions with the animals throughout the day. The aquarium was a surprise; although not large it had offerings we haven't seen elsewhere - and then you come upon a wonderful, close-up view of the bears in their enclosure - from inside the aquarium! It's a gem of an animal sanctuary, in the true sense of the word.

"The museum sits in a splendid location on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin and we actually made two visits, as there's so much to see and take in and it's free entry, so no harm to the hip pocket and much to be gained from not having to rush through. We followed staff advice as to the best way to s..."ee the exhibits, as like much in Canberra the museum has an idiosyncratic design. This is not dry history, but history and environment brought to life with artefacts, displays and stories ranging from the funny and strange to the very poignant. The shop has a great range of items for every age and budget, too. There's just one precautionary tale - if you can go in the afternoon, you'll find the parking a lot easier.

"The view from Boorooomba Rocks is impressive. The day I was there it was a good day and I could clearly see Black Mountain Tower and had a close to 270 degree panorama from Mt Bimberi to the west right around the north and down to the Tinderrys in the south east.
The road in to Booroomba Rocks ca..."rpark turnoff is signposted on the right as you drive up Apollo Road – if you arrive at the Honeysuckle Creek camping ground (end of the bitumen) you have gone a few hundred metres too far. It is about 3 km of unsealed road into the carpark. The road was in good repair when I drove over it, apart from the occasional pothole. The one steep part of the road is sealed. Drive cautiously – the potholes and dips aren’t necessarily visible until you are almost on top of them.
From the carpark, the track up to Booroomba Rocks is clearly signposted. There are other tracks leading off from the carpark so make sure you find the right one. This carpark has a bush toilet (long drop type).
It is abo...
