CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT The unique in Europe THE FRUIT WORLD Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

"Part of the Naval Museum is housed in one of the Venetian shipsheds at the far eastern end of the smaller harbour. It contains an amazing replica of a Bronze Age Minoan ship. You can imagine that Odysseus sailed in a similar boat in his adventures on the way home to Ithaca.
The research that went ..."into the construction of the boat is phenomenal and it's clearly presented in displays around the museum. The exhibition shows how the boat was built using traditional methods, tools and materials and a video shows its maiden voyage from Chania to Athens in celebration of the 2004 Olympic Games.
There is not much left in town of the Minoan/Mycenaean palace that probably is somewhere buried under the modern streets, so it's appropriate that the boat is on display in Chania because it reminds the visitor that this town, as Kydonia, has its origins in the bronze age.
The visit will reward specialist and non-specialist alike.
