"This is a fantastic trail (without a guard rail when we were actually there in 2007) and would never be allowed in the US due to liability issues. A great walk along the sea."
"Firstly, you need sensible shoes to do this, mid heel mule sandals like the lady who started this behind me won't cut it! I'm an experienced hiker, and while I never had hiking boots on I had sturdy trainers. I don't see the need for poles which others had, it's not dreadfully steep or slippy under..."foot at any point.
It is a good workout, you should be in reasonable shape.
The views are spectacular and it's a really enjoyable walk. You can but tickets near the start of the walk; so no need to queue at the train station tourist office.
Take water, there's nowhere to pick any up on the way.
Great, recommended if you like hiling, if you don't normally walk/hike, take the boat ;)

"The hike from Monterosso to Vernazza is the toughest part of the blue trail section and worth every minute of the 90+ minutes that this hike will take you. Especially rewarding are the views back to Monterosso and the views of Vernazza from the footpath. Whilst one can get to Vernazza from Monteross..."o by train and ferry (we would suggest the ferry over the train any day), the view of Vernazza is best from the footpath. If you are short of time or you don't wish to hike to Vernazza, we would suggest the ferry to Vernazza, and then a walk up the path (towards Monterosso), until you can capture an awesome photo of Vernazza. Do not miss out on this. Ok. I have read the reviews and done many hikes in my time. I would suggest the following. Walk in good shoes (as opposed to flip flops) and take plenty of water - and possibly a hat. Otherwise, take it slow and stop when you feel tired. There are many steps and the going is tough at times (that is for sure). It is however a wonderful experience...
