Pausilypon was the Villa d’otium build by roman knight Publio Vedio Pollio. When Pollio died (15 b.C.) it was given in legacy to the emperor Augustus, becoming an official imperial estate. It is located in one of the most fascinating places in Naples with a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. The gateway to the villa was given by the monumental Seiano’s cave (a tunnel 770 meters long caved in the hillside of Posillipo).

The Teatro di San Carlo was designed by the architects Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Angelo Carasale for the monarch since Charles wanted a new and larger theatre for Naples to replace the old and dilapidated Teatro San Bartolomeo of 1621. On 12 February 1816 the San Carlo was destroyed by fire. The Theatre was re-designed by the architect Antonio Niccolini and rebuilt within ten months on order of King Ferdinand IV. In 1845 there was additional refurbishment and, by 1854, the theatre's interior appearance changed to the now-traditional red and gold. Now carefully restored to its former splendour, the San Carlo is the oldest working theatre in Europe.

Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Walk around the incredible floor which depicts the Garden of Eden, on boards, and if you pay E1 you can climb up the winding steps and view the floor from above. Don't miss it.

"I have read some of the reviews about Naples and can totally understand why they are so mixed. We went for four days and there wasn't time to do everything we wanted to. If you arrived here for a short time with no information or guide (such as a short stop on a cruise) I can imagine the impressio..."n Naples offers would be sadly lacking. Many parts of the city are a labyrinth of cobbled, narrow streets that are in many cases dirty and full of graffiti. Look past all of the surface grime though and it is a fascintating place. There are underground tunnels, funicular railways, an unfinished underground metro system and tons of history. Yes the traffic is totally manic and it would be very easy to be run over by thousands of mopeds but once you get used to it, do as the locals do and weave between it! There are castles - visit Castel Sant Elmo at the top of Vomero Hill. You can get on the funicular railway to the top of the hill and the views over the bay are amazing right out to Po...

"We took a trip out to Naples when we were staying in Rome/ Hired the services of a driver named Dominic and this was the best thing we could have done. The car was spotless, the driver was informative and helpful. He was trustworthy and gave us the most wonderful tour ot Naples, the Bay and the old ..."town, the places of interest and Pompeii. It was a fantastic trip, the views were spectacular and well worth a visit. We were warned about the unscupulous people around the station and our driver ensured our safety at every step.

"Naples..Great trip, great Gritty city...
The Artecard Tutta la Regione at 27Euro is no longer available...i was offered a different card for 30 euro that did not include the Sorrento/Amalfi region on the travel side
My original plan to do the Amalfi coast went out of the window...reckon on a 3..." day visit you need a full day to whizz round the city. Naples seemed huge compared to the various other Italian cities i have visited and my feet suffered like never before. Fav areas were around Piazza del Plebiscito and particularly the buzz of Spaccanapoli and watching cars and motor scooters trying to negotiate the narrow streets/alleyways and somehow managing to avoid human casualties.
2nd day, caught the bus from the Sita bus station by the port..thought i could do Pompei, Sorrento and the Amalfi coast in a day..well to fully appreciate Pompei i reckon you need at least 4 hours there..by the time i had taken a train to Sorrento and spent a couple of hours walking around, it was 4.30 ...
