"The advertisement read:
“Hiking nearly 140 km with only a light pack as you circumnavigate the sparkling glaciers of Mont Blanc (4808m), Western Europe's highest peak, you'll cross borders by foot and experience challenging but spectacular hiking in the Alps. Seven valleys radiating out into Fran..."ce, Italy, and Switzerland accompany this immense, glacier-clad massif”.
After reading this attractive introduction to the Tour Mont Blanc (TMB), we both knew that it was now time to attempt this iconic walk. When you’re in your late 50s you start thinking about doing these challenging walks before you get much older.
We flew to Geneva, a mini bus transfer to Les Houches (France), and began our walking journey. We chose the 12 days itinerary to walk the TMB. Mid June to Mid September are the best months to travel.
As we dipped into a new valley each day, we savoured the changes in language, landscape, architecture, and cuisine. Each valley is separated by a col (mountain pass) which...

"I wanted to treat my two daughters for a family ski vacations. We were initially thinking of going to Colorado (we live in Massachusetts) but when I looked at the overall budget, it was not more expensive, even slightly cheaper, to go to France instead (lifts and lodging are cheaper in France). I mu..."st also say that we are French. My sky level is very good and my daughter's is good.
The whole experience was wicked awesome! It starts with transportation: Geneva is only 1.5 hour from Châtel where we were staying and which is one of the closest resorts you can get to in the Alps from that airport. This is also where I realized that we were not the only ones coming from the US. Lots of Americans and British at the airport.
I stayed in Avoriaz a long time ago and we tried Châtel this time. I loved Châtel and we stayed from 2/16 to 2/23 (typical apartment rentals are 7 days in France). This is a real village with real people who live there all year long. It is very family oriented and v...

"We did almost the whole trek - missed the last leg back into Les Houches. Most of our hiking has been day hiking in the Canadian Rockies so this was very different for us. Hiking every day and then ending up in a different village/mountain hut was awesome. The scenery was spectacular. There was ..."a photo around every turn! Met lots of great people from around the world. Next on our list is the Haute Route. Just a wonderful experience overall.
