The Arènes of Nîmes is the best preserved amphitheatre in the Roman world. A contemporary of the Colosseum at Rome, it provides an exceptional example of Roman civilisation. The audio-guided and illustrated tour lets visitors experience the gladiator shows and life in Roman times. The gladiator's quarters presents the weapons and techniques of gladiatorial combat, and the Colours of the Bullfighting space introduces you to this world through the magnificent costumes of toreros.

The Maison Carrée in Nimes is the only Roman ancient temple completely preserved. The inspiration for the design of the Maison Carree came from the temples of Apollo and Mars Ultor in Rome. Inside, a multimedia show immerses visitors into Nimes' heroic past using the the most cutting-edge resources. The visitors become heroes of Nîmes themselves and the Maison Carrée becomes a gateway to the past and history of Nîmes.

The Nimes Vacquerolles golf course is just 8mn from the city center. Located in a gently sloping valley amidst the aromatic and sun-drenched hills of the garrigue, this course will satisfy beginners and most demanding golfers. This all-round course allows each golfer to take pleasure in the game: undulating with impregnable views and a more relaxed last 9 holes: the greens are vast, sometimes elevated, with numerous plateaus.

"The lovely formal Water Garden is built on the old Roman site around the source of a stream. It is spacious, elegant and is a ‘must see’ place in Nîmes. On one of the pools there are a couple of black swans and a couple of white ones too.
This is a relaxing place to pass a few hours; wanderin..."g, reading, or chilling out, away from the bustle of the city. We love it here!
The gardens extend up the hill behind the water gardens and are worth exploring. On the top of the hill is the Tour Magne, a surviving part of the old Roman defences.
Entry to the gardens is free but there is a charge to go up the tower. The top is reached by a spiral staircase wound around a central pillar; not for those with vertigo!
Take a camera!

"Well worth the visit with an excellent audio guide. A combined ticket with the Maison Carree & Tour Magne can be purchased. (100% of the Maison Carree can be seen from outside, the ticket simply provides entrance to a very corny 3D visual experience which literally fills the inside ie. there is noth..."ing old to see! The Tour Magne has magnificent views over the city and the park it is in is beautiful, but its a good one hour plus walk.)

"These gardens are well worth the 10 minute walk from the town centre. They're very well laid out, well kept and extremely colourful. The design of the waterways and the swans are enchanting. Certainly cool and pleasant on a hot day and probably also great on a bad day! The Tour Magne at the top of t..."he hill behind the park also provides excellent views of the surrounds - there's a charge for this.
