The Royal Château of Blois is your gateway into the Val de LoireThe Royal Château of Blois is the first important place to discover as you come from Paris. It is a true synthesis of the art and history of the Loire Valley châteaux, and makes it an ideal introduction for your visit. The rich architecture of the four different wings echoes the diversity of styles of the many châteaux built in the Loire Valley from the Middle Ages to the 17th Century.

"We only went in here because it was raining and were so glad we did! It's a very interactive exhibition of Robert Houdin's work and life, a history of the development of magic, with illusions, a magic show, a maze in which everything is distorted, commentaries in French and English, and displays of ..."the optical instruments developed by Houdin. It's fun for all ages as well as an instructive tour of the ways in which optical instruments have been used to help eyesight, view distances, distort images and confuse the brain. Don't go just because it's raining - give it a morning or afternoon in your itinerary.

"The strange staircase at at unusual angle struck me first. But overall this chateau was far better than most with a lot to see in the rooms that were open and NO strange limitation on cameras which could be freely used.
A lot of chateaux are lovely empty shells, but not this one. It's so dreadful..." that the revolution smashed and destroyed so many wonderful sculptures..les barbares!
No food but good loos. Lots of stairs and lots of guided groups to avoid!

"This chateau was lovely, with 4 different architectural styles. I loved the stairs! The interiors had beautiful pieces of furniture and paintings. Much less crowded and much more authentic than Chenonceau! It definetely worths a visit!"
