Bordeaux industrialist Henri Frugès commissioned the visionary architect Charles-Edouard Le Corbusier, to create this unconventional neighbourhood. 50 houses were built in 1926, and restored in the 1970s. This brought out renewed respect for the buildings, which are now listed and protected in a national heritage zone (Protection du Patrimoine Architectural Urbain et Paysager).

"We happened to visit late on a Sunday afternoon, only to find that a musical quiz was about to take place in the main theatre - free entry and live musicians. We climbed the breathtaking stairs to the sixth level, otherwise known as Paradis, to emerge to a view of a beautifully decorated ceiling, en..."ormous chandelier and opera boxes. The proceedings were of course in the French language and we managed to follow some of the questions and answers but the music played was universal and delightful. If in Bordeaux check out what performances are scheduled during your visit.

"Hats off to Stephane of Bordovino Tours on 16 May. He's extremely knowledgeable of wines and an amazing tour guide. Was able to attend to the special needs of one of us while engaging us all in great English conversation. He taught us about how this region produces wines, taught us how to blend th..."em, and led us in tastings at two different chateaux. He then proceeded to lead us on a great history tour of the city of St. Emilio. He kept us totally engaged for 5-1/2 hours. A wonderful afternoon was had by all of us. I highly recommend him and I love the fact that the group size is limited to eight.
