The Churnet Valley Railway, is a picturesque heritage Steam Railway that runs through the Staffordshire’s Little Switzerland, the Churnet Valley. It meanders alongside the Caldon Canal and the River Churnet for a delightful nostalgic ten and a half mile return journey. Kingsley & Froghall Station has ample parking and disabled access and is home to the award winning traditional Tea Room and the railways Souvenir Shop both of which are open on running days. Consall Station has no public road access making it very quiet and isolated in its situation beside the weir on River Churnet where the canal splits from the river. Nearby are the Lime Kilns and the Black Lion Public House. At Cheddleton Station you can visit the Railway’s Engine Sheds and its small Railway Artifacts Museum. Trains run Sundays Easter to September, Saturdays June, July & August and Wednesdays in July and August plus all Bank Holiday Mondays.

"Fantastic day out and took much longer than we originally thought it would (in a good way!). The visit took in a introductory video, a factory tour, a detailed museum, shop and factory shop plus a craft experience. For this we both chose to make a pot which was fired and sent on to us, although othe..."r options were available such as plate/ornament painting plus flower painting and decoration adhering to a pre-made pot. Also included was a two-course lunch and a gift each, thoroughly recommended!

"Went to trentham on Sunday for the car festival, what a beautiful place, don't understand why we've left it so long to go. Only cost £28.00 for advance tickets and for a family of 4 that's a great price, lots to do for the kids play aera's , sand pits, bare foot walking, boat trip, train ride, (smal..."l charge for train and boat) plus we had all the cars to look at, fantastic day out will be defiantly going back, one complaint is there was a fair amount of dog mess on some parts on the grass, not ideal for the little ones to play on. But that's the dog owners fault !

"We took two of our grandchildren (aged 2 and 4) on a Sunday. Plenty to see on Caverswall station as well as somewhere to get a drink and snack. All the staff are very friendly and there was a hunt the fairies game for the children which if they found them all they got a chocolate bunny. I think g..."randad and me had more fun trying to find the pictures of the fairies. We took the first train of the day. Although we live quite locally we have never been on the train before. On the journey, which lasts for about 45 minutes return, we saw places that we never knew existed. It was quite surprising and the countryside is beautiful. It was quite an eyeopener.
The guard on the train was great with the children and adults alike and had our two laughing their heads off with his stories.
Tickets last all day and are reasonably priced and you can travel on the trains as many times as you wish during the day. (They accept Tesco Days Out tokens which is also a bonus! and what we used.) We went...
