St Albans Cathedral is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain. It stands over the place where Alban, the first martyr, was buried after giving his life for his faith over 1700 years ago.The building itself is a blend of architectural styles spanning a millennia and contains recycled Roman bricks from Verulamium. Of special interest are the 13th century wall paintings, a rare watching loft and the shrines of Saint Alban and Amphibalus, the priest who converted Alban to Christianity.

Tropical Butterfly House: Come and see our butterflies in their tropical habitat. At any one time you will be able to see between 500-800 butterflies, from 15-20 species. Look carefully and you will see eggs and caterpillars on the plants, and even some pupae.Ant World- The life of leaf Cutter AntsVisit our colonies of leaf cutter ants. This species invented farming and living in a 'city'. They each have their own jobs and work together to support their Queen. Don't miss this fascinating attraction.Insect Study Center:The place to view our collection of Creepy Crawly Insects. Study our Stick insects, Cockroaches, Snails, locust, Mantis and lots more and you even get a chance to hold some of these insects during our regular Insect Handling Session.Nectar House Cafe: Enjoy a selection of hot and cold food, drinks and cakes, ice creams, etc., in a comfortable and relaxed setting.Designer Gardens: Our nineteen Designer gardens are a pleasure to take a relaxed walk through. Including three newly planted gardens this season they have been planted to attract native butterflies back into the Hertfordshire countryside.Play Area:Let the children run wild in our fantastic Natural Play area. They can run through willow tunnels, climb on the huge, wooden climbing frame, and zoom down the giant slides! The perfect place for kids to let off steam!

"I was putting off my visit until the completion of Phase 2, but couldnt wait any longer. There is still plenty to see. A tropical Butterfly house / an insect room / leaf cutter ants display / gardens / cafe / childrens play areas. The Butterfly house isnt huge, but when stage 2 has been funded and ..."built it will be the biggest in europe. Hands on in the insect house was fun and children get the chance to hold stick insects / giant snails / hissing cockroach. The gardens are split into little gardens to explore - some genius / some a little tired - great fun to explore though. Large play area for children to have fun (large wavy slide is a bit dangerous though - many a child flew off the end and into the barrier). A very modern site - looking forward to developments.

"Amazing place for all ages. Lovely to take the kids. Never manage to get round everything in one visit. Vast working farm to walk round - with lake. Softplay, Ride on little tractors etc, large sand play area, 4 various carousels, b ouncy castles, bouncy giant slide, many different outside clim..."bing suitable for all ages, Feed the animals in the inside petting shed, lots of baby animals in there, lambs, piglets, puppies, chicks, depending on the season. Feed the animals outside like alpacas, horses sheep goats. Bird/owl sancuary. Lots of picnic spaces. Cafe/restaurant very expensive but clean and do hot or cold food for the kids and adults alike. Lots of outside picnic areas. They do sheep races and dog assault courses, etc and I believe they are now opening a childrens nursery. It is not cheap but the kids have never been bored there. It comes highly recommended by me. Go there very often with my grandchildren. We all love it.
