The sight of a falcon diving down towards earth at over 100mph is one of life’s truly exhilarating experiences. Having a hawk stand on your fist, happily tearing at its food, is a rare privilege. But to actually fly a bird of prey encompasses both of these and so much more. One of Britain’s few private falconry centres, Dartmoor Hawking sits at the heart of Dartmoor National Park. internationally recognized as having some of the most dramatic and stunning scenery in the country. With 35 acres of its own land, the school has plenty of space to allow clients to really see these magnificent birds flying at their best. But the wings of a raptor have few limitations and we also have access to about 15,000 acres of hunting/flying ground away from the site.Dartmoor Hawking is not open to the general public which means that we can devote all our time to our clients. In turn, that means that each individual has one of the most interactive and personal experiences with birds of prey available in the country. As a privately-run centre, we ensure that your time with us is as enjoyable and exciting as possible. Our hands-on approach is inherent in all that we offer. On our introduction and experience days, the emphasis is very much on clients handling and flying birds. For those wishing to experience real falconry, our hunting days provide a fantastic opportunity to work with birds in the field and see what the hawks can really do!Our aim is to share the wonders of birds of prey and falconry with all our clients. At Dartmoor Hawking School of Falconry, we know that your time spent with our hawks, falcons and owls will be a truly unforgettable experience. Please note: We have full Public Liability Insurance for all our events and all our staff CRB checked

A visit to Dartmoor wouldn't be complete without taking a trip to the uniquely magical garden of Pixieland, the renowned home of the Dartmoor Pixie. Within the Flora and fauna you will find many gnomes and pixies busy doing their daily chores and activities. There are gnomes and pixies fishing in decorative streams and ponds. Gnomes, working on the hillside, whilst others are sat watching the world go by. Pixies dressed in English football jerseys playing football while others dance on toadstools. There are many more besides, including our wide range of animals, from the small to the life size. As you take a walk round the garden there are many magical things happening within each stride including Giant toadstools to take a family photo of you all wearing pixie hats to remember and chuckle at as time goes by. This is Pixieland and there is nothing else quiet like it upon Dartmoor. Why not buy a pixie or gnome for your garden whilst visiting the gift shop and take home one of our handmade, hand painted cheeky chaps for yourself or for a loved one as a gift of your trip to Dartmoor.Beyond the humour, garden gizmo's and garden ornaments, there’s a wide range of other items that we sell here at Pixieland; Such as our renowned British Sheepskin Rugs, which are available in many luxurious colour’s, plain and pretties, and even skins sewn together to make exquisite large rugs. A Single soft skin will cost you less than £30 and makes a great rug, throw, seat cover or even a luxury dog bed. Don’t pass Pixieland by! You’ll chuckle at the memory for years afterwards :)

"Visited this farm/activity centre with three and half year old grand daughter on a drizzly Saturday. She really enjoyed all the activities especially all the indoor activities including sand pits and bouncy castle and the young man who did a lot of the presentations of lamb feeding and crafts was ex..."cellent with the young children. I was slightly disappointed by the fact that 3 years old and above are charged at a child rate but are not allowed on two of included rides until they are four years old!
We used the cafe and the food was reasonably priced.
Lots of notices and facilities around the buildings to remind people to wash hands after handling animals.

"This will be lovely house visit when the renovations are completed. But, do visit now as the works in progress give a good insight in to the conservation work of the National Trust. There are plenty of walks in the grounds and the café is bright and clean, if a little overpriced. I drove up from ..."Torquay and although only about 20 miles it took an hour. The road over the moor is twisty and at times single track. Take care as the locals are a bit speed happy and will push you out of the way.
