Originally this was a natural rainwater reservoir. During World War II, Dutch and American marines and soldiers used the area to do vehicle maintenance. There was always abundance of water in the area that’s why around the 1940’s trees and plants were cultivated and the park was known as "Plantentuin" (botanical garden). In the fifties in addition to the trees and plants, animals from different privately owned collections were exhibited. The area became a very popular site. The exotic/tropical animals became an attraction for the young and old. After years the area changed from botanical garden to a zoo. A zoo popularly called Parke Tropikal. Parke Tropikal is owned by the government of the island of Curaçao. The government installed in 2000 a foundation with the sole function to manage the zoo. The foundation is called Fundashon Parke Tropikal.

"I recently travelled to Bonaire with friends Lori and Jamey - they are divers, but I snorkel only. I was not sure exactly how that would work out. But it was excellent. I was warned that Mark and Suzy were kind of crazy and they were, but in the nicest possible way - always lots of fun! They chose ..."dives that were good for both divers and for me on the surface. I always felt safe and taken care of. The rest of the group were great as well and it was a most enjoyable week. I hadn't thought that I'd be up at 6 a.m. each day on my vacation, but divers really take the saying "Eat, Sleep and Dive" seriously! I don't want to brag, but I saw the most turtles of anyone in the group, but they beat me hands down when it came to seahorses. Suzy and Mark are a delightful team and I would recommend them to anyone.

"My wife and I did the tour on May 20th 2013. I must say we had a blast. I've done other buggy and jeep tours in the past, but this was far most the best. You really get to open up on these trails...meaning, go a little fast. On other tours, we were always going and stoping. Ronan was a great to..."ur guide. One thing I would recommend, is to have two bandanas each. Once for your head, and the other for your face....it gets pretty dusty out there. One more thing, where closed toe shoes. Some guy wore some flip-flops, and they broke....so he had to walk bare-footed around.

"I've dived with The Dive Bus almost every year since 2006 and they never fall short on customer care, attention to detail, friendly smiles, and knowledgeable dive leaders. I love how they've expanded in recent years to include a full-service retail shop (for those quick mouthpiece replacements and ..."a new mask strap) and a large comfortable gearing up station. They have quality gear ready for rental if you need as well. But perhaps the best part of diving with them is their attention to the customer experience - you feel valued as a customer and know that your vacation dollars are well spent. I dare anyone to dive with them and not walk away with great memories and a smile on your face! :)
