According to legend, two brothers kept trying to return a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, to the Sumida River only to have it returned to them the next day. This temple located in Tokyo's Asakusa district was built to honor her.

"The park houses several museums.
but what's interesting are those miniature temples (imitation of those kyoto temples and shrines).
Highly recommended to go to visitor center office for free guided walking tour.
After visiting park, nice to walk and shop along the wet market and bazaar (along the..." train station).

"One of Tokyo's few cultural sights, this place is pretty over-run with tourists and tourist-trappings, but it's a pleasant enough place. Get on that train and get out into the country after visiting here.....not much else for tourists to see in Tokyo."
"We had a great time spending the day at the zoo. The Ueno area is very nice with lots of areas to walk around and check out.
PROS:
Inexpensive, around $5 USD for an adult. You get a discount if you bring your passport to show you are a visitor!
Lots of great animals including:
Giant pandas
Red pand..."a
Polar bear
Lots of birds
Big zoo, lots to look at
CONS:
Food and gifts a bit pricey, but this is for most attractions
The layout of the zoo was a bit confusing
Can get crowded so go on a weekday
