Please purchase a ticket at the bus station before boarding the bus, cost 980¥ one way, and took about 40mins. On the day I arrived, I did not visit the monster as the weather was bad, strong winds on top of heavy snow. No rotemburo either. I thought to myself, one wasted trip. The weather managed to clear a little on the next day, the day I checked out. I had some time on my hand before heading down back to Yamagata. I had to choose between rotemburo or snow monsters. I chose the latter. The bus terminal offer locker storage at 200¥, which is rather cheap. I left my backpack in the locker and embarked on this journey up before the weather got worse. Weekends at Zao Onsen are busy, though not crowded, occasional lift lines for a ski school group, on weekdays even less activity. Mostly Japanese skiers enjoying the snow, noticed only a couple of non Japanese during our week long stay. Reductions for Seniors are available on lift passes for those 55 and older. Key cards are used at Zao; purchased for Y500 and refunded on completion via a Ticket Vender machine. Key Cards placed in the ski jacket pockets are read on passing through the turnstile before the lift.
