We visited and revisited the place i the past 20 years several times... since the Sovietic troupes left.... In early '90s it was in a horrible condition... Now unbeleivable resotred. Only congratulation! It was amazing to see year by year a new part, a new building to be reopened. Today nearly all castle can be seen. What I recommand: the... More

Visited Godollo Palace with a Hungarian friend this week and was amazed at it's beauty and elegance. The history is fascinating too from it's origins to it's more recent troubled past. A look and walk around the gardens it well worth doing too and by getting off at Godollo main station you can make a circuit and end up back... More

We visited the Royal Palace of Gödöllö in mid April while staying one week in Budapest. I recommend this place to anyone who is interested in the history of Hungary during the last 300 years and especially during the era of Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) who was very much appreciated by the Hungarian people. The palace is Sissi's dearest residence because... More

We live in Vienna and are bombarded with the Austrian interpretation of the Habsburg empire, so it was very interesting to visit this palace and glimpse the Hungarian perspective. I was also intrigued by the room that discusses the palace in modern times, and especially the bit about how it was used as a Soviet military installation.

Cafe is fine, cakes and coffee excellent; garden recently renovated, very large, but the museum itself is wonderful. 20 years ago it housed Soviet troops, now it is in fine condition, with many examples of period art and costume. Plenty of regular events, particularly good at Xmas for craft fairs, drinks, and music.

Close to Budapest (less than an hour) Overall a nicely restored castle highlighting, of course, the history of the wife of Franz Joseph I, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, Elisabeth of Austria better known as “Sissy” It’s a pity that there are so few authentic objects exposed in the castle. As I said, the buildings are nicely restored... More

I went for a walk on my own there earlier today. You can enter the rear gardens for free by just walking straight though the main entrance hall. It was a beautiful sunny day and I spent 2 hours there just sitting in or walking around the garden. They have a small garden centre in the gardens which I believe... More

Not far form the capital, approx half an hour by car or HÈV-train transport. About the half of the castle is renovated and can be visited all year round. Nice to see where Sissi and the royals used to live. There is a multimedia room, with computers providing informative children games about the castle and the past. My 5 years... More
