Absolutely brilliant day of surfing. We were only beginners and had no experience but this surfing school was excellent..we has the very best of equipment provided to us..(it was very cold so we had long wet suits; hats; gloves and shoes! Soo cosy) We had a brilliant instructor who had us in the water straight away no wasting time on... More

Thanks Barry- Bali had better look out when you get there later in the year! Despite the fact that it was pretty cold, you were, as you say wrapped from head to toe in our winter gear to keep you nice and toasty. That's one of the great benefits of a small "surf only" school like ourselves,we have all the equipment that... Blackfield is a nice quite coffee house where you can relax with a good cup of coffee and browse their really cute clothing line. they have a variety of Achill produced fleeces, hats, hoodies ect. They dont rush you, you can sit and relax or shop at your ease.

We had six children booked into the surf school in July. The waves disappeared to begin with, but when they were back Gerry made sure they got all their lessons in before we had to leave. Each child really enjoyed themselves and felt they had learnt how to surf to their own ability. Gerry also took some stunning photos of... More

We have just visited keel and had a fabulous week. Despite there being no good surfing waves for the first 3 days and surf camp being cancelled - Gerry made many suggestions for other activities AND when the waves came 5 of the children with me had the time of their lives. They had double sessions to make up, they... More

We had missed lunch and managed to grab the last two bowls of vegetable soup at the Blackfield cafe. Together with scones from Ferndale Restaurant, the soup was just what we needed on a wet and windy afternoon to keep up going to dinner. My cappuccino was perfect.

"My cappuccino was perfect.." Music to our ears here in Blackfield, as we take great pride in making our Illy espresso based coffee drinks. Next time you come you can try our new range of iced coffees, and the increasingly popular Iced Chocolate! We appreciate you taking the time to review our family run coffee shop, clothing studio and surf... More

My two Spanish exchange students couldn't believe their eyes when we arrived down on Keel Beach to have lunch on Blackfield's groovy double-decker coffee shop bus. The views from the top-deck were spectacular, probably the best vantage point on the whole of Achill Island. A truly 'surf-dude' experience. I can still feel the salt on my skin and smell the... Try the apple sponge cake, WOW. Very friendly staff, beautiful clothing, many items hand made. So much nicer, less expensive and bigger than the Beehive cafe nearby. The seating outside is slightly sheltered from the prevailing southwesterly winds, closest thing you will get to sun trap in Achill.

Called to Blackfield Coffee Shop however this is not a place i would recommend. On day we called their coffee machine was out of order and we were offered coffee from a flask. I had heard about the wonderful cakes supposed to be on offer, again however nothing on display. Seating area is very cramped and one large table occupied... More

We did have a coffee machine meltdown on the day in question. As we are in a remote (but fantastically scenic) location, its not possible to have a technician visit for several days, so I fixed the machine myself during opening hours and we closed the coffee shop for the day as there were pieces of Rancillio espresso machine all over...
