While an overnight stay at this historic hotel is quite expensive (over $400 per night) we recommend a daylight visit and having lunch in the dining room. The views of the surrounding meadow add to the ambience and the food is delightful.

We did not stay here but sat in the hotel to enjoy our picnic lunch during a days excursion in the park, and we sampled the wares of the bar .. Got to say the hotel was extremely impressive, fabulous fireplaces, stunning views and great location. If you are in Yosemite do stop off here.

I have never had a meal here nor spent the night, but I do love to walk through their great room taking photos. There is so much history here that you can spend hours just looking at stuff. Just outside of the entrance to the Ahwanee is a small picnic area that overlooks a meadow and has a commanding view of Glacier Point. I can remember lying in that meadow as a kid and watching the Fire Falls performed by the NPS. Saw one of the last performances in the fall of 1967.

Stayed there many years ago in November, beautiful Christmas decorations, wonderful food in the restaurant, light dusting of snow with deer in the meadow; a piece of heaven on earth. Rooms are lovely, but very warm in the winter...

Sorry you were disappointed. What went wrong? This is a very average hotel. The challenge is that it is in a challenging position as it has a monopoly but is perhaps constraint in modernisation...... We love visiting the Ahwahnee especially when it has been decorated for Christmas and the Bracebridge Dinner. There are fewer people, it is quieter and peaceful and you can get into the dining room with a bit of pre-planning reservations and enjoy the beauty of winter.
