Every town sports a big old hose that everyone wanted to visit. This would be Newport's. Not so overwhelming as others. Real folks could live here.
This Victorian house is one of the more unique, grand houses in Newport. It is one you could actually live in. It is warm and approachable and looks like a home that a family enjoyed, not one used exclusively to entertain and impress, although it would do both. One reason for this is that the scale of the house is... More
This visit we went to Chateau sur Mer, Chepstow, Kingscote and Isaac Bell House on the Saturday of the Newport Wine & Food Festival. The only property we have seen before was Chateau sur Mer, all the others were our first time visiting. Reading some of the reviews, we were not surprised that some of these properties are not visited... More
This home is jam packed with the treasures of the King family and is pretty cool. Comparisons to the glitzy mansions are apples and oranges. The mandatory guided tour was too long for my taste, I have to say. It ran an hour and I would have preferred 30-40 minutes max. I prefer the self guided audio tours so I... More
This is actually a small house compared to the other mansions. One had to take a 45 min. guided tour that leaves every 1/2 hour. The most amazing fact about this house is that all of the furnishings and decor are original to the house - a rare find. FYI: Don't wait to buy things in this mansion's gift shop... More
Wonderful "cottage" on the historical tour. This is definitely different from The Breakers but puts history in perspective . Tours are on the half hour and led by very informed guides. This house has all of the original furnishings. Tour was about 30-40 minutes.
This place is pretty spectacular. The tour guide was excellent! It's very well done. The home and grounds are smaller than the "big" mansions on the tour, but this place is a little jewel box! The stained glass is gorgeous. There are many wonderful artifacts from the families travels. A nice home to see. One of my favorites
We almost didn't go here because the outside is both drab and in poor repair. But it was the best of the 8 houses we saw in Newport. The interior is stunning, plus the family's 150 years of collecting is intact. Everyone should make a point of coming here, and perhaps the Historical Society will divert some maintenance money to... While not as large or ornamental as some of the other grand houses in Newport, Kingscote has its own unique history and charm. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and entertaining and the smaller scale tour was a delightful change of pace.
