Nice sand, convenient, but too much seaweed. Corpus needs to clean it up! Otherwise, Malaquite is a beautiful beach and very family oriented.

I wouldn't say it's nice enough to warrant a 4+ hour drive is Galveston is in your backyard. Water is still very brown here. It's pretty, though -- huge dunes, secluded, but with a nice visitor's center and toilets/showers. We'd definitely return if the drive weren't so long.

$10 entrance fee, $20 for overnight camping. Very clean sand, water is maybe a little clearer than most Gulf beaches. Somewhat isolated, which I like. There are restrooms and snack shack on location, as well as an open area to wash the sand off. Very well maintained beach.

We visited the beach on a so-so weather day. Saw a TON of wildlife, and spend some time looking through the seaweed that had washed ashore. Along with pelicans and a lot of other shore birds, we saw portuguese man o'war and some crabs.
