Connect with the greatness of the Whaling city ! A go to spot with out of town friends to share the flavor of the Southcoast. A huge scrimshaw collection and of course the history and importance of whaling to our households of the past . Go again and again, they are always opening new exhibits and changing out their artifacts.

Interesting history of NB and the whaling era. The Whaling Museum is also worth a visit. Period photographs, footage and endless historical facts and stories.

I have been going to the NBWM since I was a child when it just had one building, now with all the additions, the whale carcases and historical exhibits this is indeed the best museum on Whaling I have ever visited. It is New Bedford's premium attraction and it is a must see if you are in the area.

Lots of great exhibits. Excellent junior ranger program for the kids. Great walking tour around historic district. The amount of money made, spent and lost in the city is amazing! Spend some time here and absorb it all. This was once THE PLACE for whaling.

Ok, I must admit I'm not into the whole whaling history scene.(yes there is one). I did really enjoy this museum. If you live in the Southcoast region some of our local librarys have discount passes you can sign out for you visit.

I'm a proud native so consider the source - but New Bedford is about so much more than Moby Dick and killing whales (whose oil lit the world at the time, but I digress). It was a welcoming place for escaped slaves and other free Blacks looking to make their way in this world, thanks to a thriving Quaker community.... More
