We hadn't heard many recommendations for the history center but were very impressed. The Olympic section was good but the Civil War exhibition is particularly well done. A nice contrast elsewhere between Smith farm and Swan house both very interesting in their own right. So much to see and our children (7&5) enjoyed it too.

I enjoyed seeing a reproduction of a house from many years ago. I was especially intrigued with the size of the beds. It was obvious that people used to be a lot shorter than they are today! Throughout the house I was amazed at the simplicity of the decor, but I really enjoyed it.

We visited the Atlanta History Museum at the Atlanta History Center and also the Swan House mansion, Tullie Smith farm, and the Margaret Mitchell House. It was absolutely one of the best tours we've done and we've visited sites around the world. I would rate this as one of the best tours to do and a great bargain for all... More

I spent an afternoon at the History Center this past weekend during my first visit to Atlanta with a friend. The grounds are lovely and the museum worth spending serious time at. The exhibition of traditional southern crafts is excellent. Be sure to take a close look at the quilt display. We decided to have lunch at the Swan House... More

First we toured the Swan House. Our guide, "Ruby", was enthusiastic & knowledgeable making the guided tour interesting & enjoyable. Then we had a good lunch at the Swan House Restaurant. When I left there were no men in a packed restaurant. We spent several hours after lunch in the history museum. It is well done, interesting, & educational. There... More

This place was educational while being casual. You could roam around at your own pace and see whatever you wanted. There is a variety of exhibits: tours, hands on for the kids, gardens, museums, etc.

The History Center was a wealth of knowledge about the city's past and explained a lot of the rural beginnings and the transformation to the world class city that Atlanta has become.

The Swan House was very nice. Tour guide was a little long winded & we had to cut out early to make our lunch reservations at the Swan Coach House. Ground are very beautiful. LOTS of kids there on school field trips.

This is not your same old history museum. To begin with, it's housed in a lovely piece of architecture, but don't juege the book by it's cover. This is a forward thinking, opinion making kind of a place. I really didn't expect that - but I enjoyed it.

Went to eat one of the best hot dogs in Atlanta at the Metro City Hot Dog stand located at the History Center on April 11. Spent the day walking the grounds and enjoyed the Swan House tour and the historical exhibits on display. Make sure you wear walking shoes to enjoy this 20+ acres location. The exhibits are educational... More
