71,000 acres of lovely forest and grassland, lots of wildlife, tons of camping, rustic cabins with hookups to primitive sites. We entered on Needles Highway and drove that route to see the scenic rocks, curvy road, then onto Wildlife Loop and saw herds of buffalo, some right up to the roadside, and babies, and coyote, whitetail deer, and famous wild mooching donkeys. We had two apples and they came right to the car and ate them, but don't try to... More

When we visited South Dakota we wanted to do everything possible and we did. Custer state park had fun things to do that we took full advantage of. We went horseback riding, kayaking, hiking, drove the wild life loop, and even took a helicopter ride out of Custer. We wanted to do the jeep trail ride, but they didn't offer... More

My husband & I traveled through the park after visiting Mt. Rushmore. We are so glad we did. We were looking forward to seeing some buffalo & we weren't disappointed. In fact, there were two times we saw only one buffalo on the side of the road (right next to the road) & got pictures. You can't get too much... More

The Bison roam freely, all kinds of wildlife you can see everywhere, and the lakes for fishing are beautiful and excellent. This area stays green all year round. More
