This was a beautiful old place, with unique design features and a garden-feel. It was worth the time to wander around and imagine times gone by.

You can walk to the Metairie Cemetery (aka Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemetries) from the last stop on the Canal streetcar. Its a little dangerous as you have to avoid traffic when crossing the main intersection. There is a small entrance in the corner by the traffic lights behind a bush that you can walk through into the... More

We visted the Metairie Cemetery because I really wanted to see the weeping angel mausoleum. A grounds keeper was kind enough to lead us to it (4th from the right of the walkin entrance right off the highway) it was nice because road allowed us drive through and stop and get out without having to park and walk the whole... Beautiful park like grounds. The tombs are like works of art, certainly worth the visit. Water features and wild life are abundant.

Not much to do because it's a cemetery but cool sculptures, interesting to see how some of the cemetery held up even through Katrina, above ground burials are picture worthy.

I think of NOLA & I can see the tombs in my mind. This cemetery is exactly what you'd expect in extravagance. It is a little bit hard to find, but it's worth the effort. You can drive thru without worrying about getting lost and finding yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you want to tour... More

This was part of our city tour and our driver provided the history and events that lead to the practice of above ground burials. It was informative. Some of the crypts are beautiful and some have colourful history.

It was amazing to see all the crypts. The staff gave us a booklet and it had the history of some of the crypts and why NOLA buries their dead above ground. Very interesting for a few hours.

The mausoleums are truly beautiful structures. I realize the practical side of them, but there is also lovely, loving artwork that goes into each one to honor a family member. This cemetery is several miles from downtown New Orleans, but tour buses are available.

Imagine all these tombs, close together, some tilted, some regal and upright--OK, it's hard to imagine until you go, and so that's why you should take time and visit the cemetery. It's a photographer's delight. With any sort of weather, you can get great shots here that you can't duplicate anywhere (except outside San Jose, Costa Rica, and that's a... More
