While the trash strewn park area may be off-putting, the caves are very impressive and awe-inspiring.

If you are on vacation, Karla Caves should be first on your list of things to see in Lonavala. Lots of climbing, walking so come prepared with shoes, water and hat based on weather conditions.

Great view from the top..beautiful caves! Entry to the caves before 5pm. The Ekvira temple is small but deity is beautiful..in the evenings its less crowded hence peaceful. It’s not maintained well and the plastic waste littered on the hill is disgusting!

They have restricted the entry to the caves as the stairs leading inside have lost its strength. Now this place is not so appealing. The only thing here to see is the buddhist room with elephant pillars.

This place is full of surprises. I recommend you to visit in the evening just to catch the sunset from the top. Caves are well maintained. Ekvira devi temple is full of bliss & will give you enchanting experience. In monsoon this place must be no less than heaven. Next time you go to Lonavala, dont forget to visit Karla caves.

Karla caves was the first thing a local shopkeeper suggested we see when we reached Lonavla. Being only a 15- 20 minute drive from the town centre , we bought ourselves a box of the local delicacy 'Chikki' to energise us, and braved the walk up the caves. We were pleasantly surprised to find it well maintained. There were beautiful... More

I rated the Karla Caves as Excellent--infact a very high rating, because they are 2000 years old and still maintained reasonably well.Karla Caves may be visited both from Pune and/or Mumbai. They are located nearer to Lonavala.Karla caves lie in the wester ghats.,may be around 100 kms from Mumbai. It has been reported that the caves are complex of ancient Indian Buddhist... Karla caves is breathtakingly magnificent. The location is known for two things -- (a) Karla Caves and; (b) Ekvira Devi temple and is visited is crowded round the year. A few things needs urgent attention from the authorities, which can only ink Karla Caves as a must-see site. (a) water leaks at numerous locations needs attention; (b) cleanliness and hygiene...
