Nothing better than lazing by the water, watch the time slow down. Something better than that is taking a country boat and explore the backwaters. The coconut tree lined waterways , traffic jams with the houseboats, country boats fighting their way in between, pond herons, egrets giving company, what else do you need to unwind! allepey was heaven on earth.... I found it a little boring,we tied up around 5 and then we had a little walk but theres no where really to walk to.then you leave at 8 in the morning and back by nine.probably a day trip would have been more suitable. make sure you shop around and look at a few different boats and check prices. No words can define the joy and tranquility that you experince travelling in the houe boat. Please don't miss the house boat trip if you are visiting Kerala. Its a different world. Our House boat (Golden mist ) was very neat and clean. The hospitality was great, though only one of the two people on the boat knew english, he... More

Spent a week in the middle of the Backwaters, and it was pure delight. Small tracks, lots of birds, quiet and lovely. Except for the plague of hundreds of houseboats. Get rid of them Kerala. They are polluting, noisy. More

Take the boat ride covering both Kumarakom and Allepey. Push the house boat owner to give you a wider coverage by 5PM. THe boat is at halt during night. carry mosquito repellent is you want to enjoy sitting at the deck during night. More

Food, the canoe ride, the staff... the entire experience was great. But make sure you see the boat that you're getting before you make any payments. More

Great experience! After looking at a number of boats we settled on one that looked well-maintained with a clean kitchen and plenty of sitting area, which is important. We tried to bargain down (and probably ended up overpaying), but six of us spent two nights on a two-bedroom houseboat for 24,500 INR total--that's 12,250 INR/night--and this was on a Friday-Saturday--very... We spent 2 days on the rice boats with the company Tour India. We had a cook, captain and a guide. The whole experience was magical. We were served delicious food 3times a day. We watched the sunset from the boat as we anchored on the middle of the backwaters and enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep. It rained a bit... More
