My husband and I booked a tour to the Artic Circle and see the Northern Lights. It was not what I expected. Yes, we knew it would take a very long time, but didn't know that our guide would be so horrible! In fact, I knew more about Alaska than our guide! I'm now even questioning if he was from... More

From what I learned, 1st Alaska contracts with local mushers to conduct their single and multi-day dog sledding tours. While volunteering at the Yukon Quest in Fairbanks in February, I decided I wasn't leaving Alaska without experiencing firsthand a dog sled ride. After reviewing different tours offered at 1st Alaska, I selected the Aurora Dinner Dog Sled Tour(http://1stalaskaoutdoorschool.com/Aurora_Dinner_Dog_Sled_Tour.html). My very... More

Had a great time going out to the Chena Hot Springs with Ben. He was an excellent driver. He went out on a limb for me by allowing me extra time to see the aurora when it finally came out. The other guests were anxious to leave and as we were about to the sky exploded into the most fantastic... More

My 20-something son and I went on the Northern Lights / Dinner / Dog Sled Tour arranged by 1st Alaska Outdoor School, over the MLK weekend. Our hosts, Nita and Josh, have built a rustic cabin off the grid, about 20 miles northwest of Fairbanks. Nita and one of her dogs, Suki, picked us up at the Fairbanks Hampton right... More

My husband and I spent 5 days in Fairbanks mushing with 1st Alaska Outdoor School and would recommend it to anyone and everyone who has a sense of adventure and is after a way to see the true beauty of Alaska. Our guides truly made the experience unforgettable and they were able to cater to our varying needs. We were... More

I had a great trip. an all day and night ride up to the arctic circle. seeing the pipeline and especially being on the road up there. better to take some sandwiches on the road and some snacks even though included. the guide was very nice and informative. a bit expensive with respect you can do the ride by yourself... I was in Alaska for a conference in July/August of 2011 and was looking for some things to do while I had some free time. I came across the 1st Alaska Outdoor School website and booked the Arctic Circle daytrip (the van trip). The booking was easy and quick, and I had my voucher for the trip e-mailed within 48... More

Picked up promptly at hotel, our tour guide Dhawn was fantastic. She made it very interesting and even kept my teenage daughters entertained. She made lots of stops which she made us switch seats which was a great idea. She talked to everyone individually and asked questions and allowed us to ask her questions. This was our first excursion while... More

We learned a lot during this twelve hour trip to the Arctic Circle - the land, the weather, the Native peoples, the oil industry and the hardy souls who call it home. Our guide Leon was a treasure trove of information, sometimes too much! Going in a van with a small group made it more pleasurable since we could interact... More

We took the Dalton Highway trip up to the Arctic Circle with 2 other couples. Dhawn was our driver/tour guide and she was absolutely terrific...very knowledgeable with the area & a great driver on that highway!! Next time we take a trip up the Dalton, we definitely want Dhawn as our driver. The trip was long, but well worth the... More
