The 9/11 Memorial consists of two massive pools set within the original footprints of the Twin Towers with 30-foot waterfalls cascading down their sides. The nearly 3,000 names of the men, women, and children killed in the attacks are inscribed into bronze parapets surrounding the twin Memorial pools. This national tribute, located at the heart of the World Trade Center, also gives visitors the unique opportunity to witness the rebuilding taking place around them—including the construction of 1 World Trade Center, which will be the tallest building in the United States. Although free to visit, advance passes for a specific date and time are required. Visitor passes, including same-day passes, can be reserved on the Memorial website. « less

I had been to the twin towers before they fell, and felt that on return to NYC, I would want to visit the memorial site. While this will likely be a lovely memorial, until the museum is open, it seemed like a lot of hassle and waiting, for a very limited experience. I think it is lovely what they have... More

I got an appt via website, no entrance fee just donation. I gave $10.00. The area where it is located had a lot of construction, signage was not clear. I am form New York, so being there was bitter sweet. Nice to see NYC heal by re-building towers. However, I struggle not seeing the NYC skyline that I grew up... More

We visited the memorial on a rainy morning and it seemed appropriate that the heavens were crying over this sad place. One can't help but me moved while here.

Wow. To my mind you cannot visit NYC without seeing this powerful and moving memorial! It is also worth buying photo filled books from the street venders! Get your $2 reservation in advance to not wait in line.

If there is one thing most people will remember for the rest of their life, it is where and what you were doing the moment you heard about the World Trade Center on 9/11. The memorial was beautifully done and I cannot wait until it is completed to visit it again. Definitely made me feel proud to be an American... More

There are two huge sunken square waterfalls exactly where the twin towers stood. Around each pool are the names of all the people who died. Although it was busy there was an air of reverance. It was hard to believe that two huge towers could fall into such a small place with damaging the surrounding buildings. It is a meandering... More

I felt the same somber and reverent feeling when I saw all the names on the wall here that I felt when I saw all the names on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. I was at the 9/11 Memorial on a bright day full of blue sky and sunshine. It was quiet and reverent even though there were lots of people... More

This is a place everyone should visit. Make sure you purchase tickets on line before going. It will make the process easier once you arrive. There are no bathrooms available. Within walking distance from the subway

The two reflecting pools spoke of the many lives that were lost here. Water, lifegiving, flowed down into the earth as did the lives of so many people who went down on that tragic day. Despite the crowds of people visiting the memorial, there was a reverent stillness. Sadly, I felt a closeness to these members of my American family.... More
