Columbia University is a nice place to get away for a few hrs from the hectic pace of Times Sq, just a few metro stations away. The campus is beautiful and relaxing, with cherry trees blooming around imposing buildings. Don't forget to proceed east of the campus and take a walk along Morningside dr and stroll down the beautiful park... More

Columbia University is located in the Upper West Side section of Manhattan in the Morningside Heights neighborhood (around West 116th and Broadway). It is near the Hudson River and the large Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. It is in a safe part of NY (close to Central Park North) although I think it was not a nice area... More

Once you enter the gates, you are steeped in rich history. It was founded in 1754 and is the highest institution of learning in New York state and the 5th highest in the United States. It occupies more than 6 city blocks (approximately 32 acres) and encompasses many schools (School of Law, Teachers College, School of General Studies, etc,). It... More

To get into a lot of buildings, you're going to need a student id. Sure, you can just enjoy the spacious main campus, wide open and impressive, with Low Library at the north side and Butler Library on the south. As an alumnus, I love going there because I can still get into the many branches of the library system.... More

From Columbus Circle, I took the #1 subway up to the Columbia University stop. This was a nice respite from the bustle of midtown. I simply walked the grounds while visiting with a friend. In the protected area that is the campus, you can slow your pace and actually hear each other. The buildings reflect a variety of architectural styles,... More

Walked through the Columbia University Campus and was very impressed. Where I’m from, the buildings don’t have the history or detail as the ones on the East Coast. The Quadrangle, with the library is one area to make sure to walk through. I must add campus security was nice enough to direct us to a nearby building that was open... More

My daughter and I signed up for all four tours at the University. I thought I was going to talk her out of wanting to go to college in the City. Now I want to study in the City. Feels like a real college campus with a quad, gated security, gorgeous buildings, 79 Nobel Laureates, 9 on current faculty... what... More

Easy to reach on the Red Line One Subway to Columbia University Station. Cannot mistake your stop. Nice area with a small market in progress near the subway exit. Short walk to the college and a walk around with a library building at opposite ends. Take your camera and read about the university before your visit. Exit onto Amsterdam Ave... More
