The ferry takes you back and forth to the Staten island, and it is a great ride. You get fairly close to the Statue of Liberty, and it is free! Nothing more to ask. P.S. Avoid Staten Island, we had a horrible experience going to Chinese garden. Ended up taking a bus with not so great crowd, wasted our time.... More

This is a rarity in New York, something for nothing! Rather than pay through the nose for a tourist tour boat to the statue of Liberty (Liberty Island is currently closed due to the hurricane damage) why not hop onto the Staten Island ferry for a free ride across the river taking in excellent views of Liberty Island en route,... A great free trip from Manhattens most southern point to Staten Island. The ferry is free, and gives a great view of the Manhatten skyline, the statue of liberty and Ellis island. Got a little crowded, but it was no problem getting good seats on board, or standing outside to get a better view. Lots of great foto oppertunities.

As Liberty and Ellis Island are closed we used the Staten Island ferry to get a view of the statute it also gave an amazing view of the New york skyline. It only takes half an hour each way and is free. A less crowded and very good view was theakof the boat! I can recommend a wander around the... More

Great views of the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline, all for the low, low price of nothing! How can you go wrong? Oh, and as a bonus, it's extremely easy to get to by subway.

Enjoy the trip over, grab a coffee and then be in the front of the queue to head back so you get the best seats - down on the left and take amazing photos! Free trip too.

My wife and I waited in a very long line to take the ferry out to Liberty Island, but once you get there you are so close to Lady Liberty that the view isn't very good. On another day we took our kids on the Staten Island ferry and the view of the Statue of Liberty was much better and... More

Took the ferry when Liberty island was closed (due to hurricane Sandy) with three boys. Enjoyed the Manhattan skiline, the pictures of lady liberty, and the fact that the tour ended after about one hour...

This was another one of the must do things in New York. The ride takes about 30 minutes but you get a great view of lower Manhattan and the Hudson River. As the Ferry was making the trip the US Coastguard boat was along side us the whole way. It is a good way to just sit and enjoy the... More
