Liberty Island is currently closed due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but still an impressive sight, the island is closed due to damage, so we saw it from the Staten Island ferry, its free. It would have been better from the Ellis Island ferry, at least you can get closer to the girl.

We took a ferry boat that went to Ellis Island and did we enjoy it! I absolutely loved the beauty of the statue and what it stood for. It was cloudy the day we went, but that didn't dampen our spirits. I loved watching the seagulls and waves crashing up on shore. True Americana.

Just a big statue like so many around the world. Nothing breathtaking or interesting. Nothing to do either, go near the statue in a boat and back. Wall Street and museums are more interesting!

When this tour was planned, pre-Hurricane Sandy, we were very excited about being able to tour the symbol of freedom and hope to many immigrants coming to America. After Sandy we were notified and told that it had been closed and would not reopen until after repairs. The harbor cruise was still an excellent one. It was windy and rainy,... More

Everybody knows the statue of Liberty. But it is real big when you stand at the bottom looking up. Unfortunatly when we were there they were busy working so you couldnt go up to the top which I can imagin would be wonderful. It must be a very nice view over the city. Nice outing. Not so much to do... More

The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of the friendship established during the American revolution. it looks green due to chemical reaction of copper with the atmosphere.oxidies.

The only reason to visit here is that your NY trip is not complete without visiting this place. But for me its just an ordinary place with some extra ordinary media hyped.

Buy a nice calendar of New York sites and save your money. It's just a statue and the grounds are closed due to Sandy damage.

Ellis Island and Lady Liberty were closed so I got to see her from Battery Park and she was still beautiful. I was very greatful to have seen her in person!!
