Spent the day in the park. Spectacular and eye-boggling! Did the rim walk at the top end and then went up to Mesa Arch. Next time I'll spend more time in Moab and get out to Needles and perhaps the Maze. Moab is the epicentre of dramatic SW desert parks, Arches, Dead Horse and Canyonlands - not to forget the... More

We thought nothing could match the awe and wonder of the Grand Canyon, we were wrong. Islands in the Sky, part of Canyonlands National Park is a must see experience. The mile long rim hike is a must do! Canyonlands is not crowed like many of the more "famous" National Parks, so much more enjoyable. Yes, there are red rocks,... More

We saw more buttes than we expected once we were passed Mineral Bottom on the Green River. Afternoon winds could be a problem and camping sites the last 4 miles before the confluence with the Colorado River were slim to none since the tamarisk has taken over and the flood of 2011 erased some beaches.

Island in the Sky District is of course beautiful. If you are a photographer, set up your tripod and camera at Mesa Arch, but be sure to get there a least an hour before sunrise otherwise, you will not get a great spot. This place gets crowed at sunrise. Hiking is this district is also great.

There are parts of this park that are difficult to visit on your own. The trip to Island in the Sky over back roads was exciting; glad we weren't driving! Glad we made arrangements for a tour in a 4x4. However, the southern part of the park referred to as the Needles was a beautiful, easy drive. Don't miss newspaper... More

Again, the rock formations and canyons were outstanding and beautiful to see. The scenic by-ways and trails wee easy for most people.

Never really spent time in Canyonlands before this trip; easily overlooked relative to its neighbor, Arches outside of Moab. But well-worth the visit; beautiful vistas, short hikes to breathtaking views, less-traveled by visitors, so more space. Walk to Mesa Arch, walk the rim of the Grand View at the end. Didn't go to Needles, since it necessitates a several hour... More

WOW - Canyonlands was much more grand and spectacular than we imagined. I figured it would be 'not much' after Arches, but WOW I am glad we went. Definitely worth the drive. Bring your own lunch and lots of water - there is no food service in the park. There are miles of awesome trails, but we are not hikers.... More
