This beach is not so overly populated and has a nice restroom facility, easy surf and picnic tables and covered pavilions for family gatherings.
The whole Shipwreck area is pretty impressive. My wife and I took a stroll on Shipwreck during the day one day and walked for a mile or two up the rocky cliffs of shipwreck. We enjoyed the views so much that we went back the next morning very early and watched the sun rise. I would highly recommend this. Because... More
I saw Shiprock Beach from my bedroom for seven blissful days. It's a lovely beach by the Grand Hyatt Hotel and anchored at the end by a large rock formation. One morning I took off by myself to climb that rock. It was far easier than I imagined and at the top, I discovered that there were trails leading to... More
It's difficult to say which beach was my favorite on our recent trip to Kauai but Shipwreck Beach is certainly in the fight for the top sport. We didn't go swimming but really enjoyed walking the beach and doing some easy hiking up the cliffs. We parked too far away. We didn't see the small parking lot between the hotel... More
...on Friday, September 13th by teh fabulous and entertaining Pastor Harold Kilborn from the Historic Koloa Church performed our fantastic vows-it was beautiful with the surf sounds, crashing bright blue waves and cliffs in the background. Pastor blew conch shell too...could not ask for more! We will be going back to hike the cliff on our anniversary!!
Great spot to get married!!! Beach permit only needed! Tons of spots to choose from in the shade or closer to the water. Even a cliff to jump off of afterwards if you so choose.

The view on the beach is beautiful but not great for swimming. The surf is rough and only for strong swimmers. A good place to watch the local kids on their boogie boards. If you want to swim or snorkel this is not the place!
My resort sat right on this gorgeous beach, but while its gorgeous, its not the best for swimming. The waves are huge and the waters rough, a small walk further down would be more suitable for swimming. A local warned us against swimming in the waters where the hotel was located (The Grand Hyatt) and guided us further down to... More
