Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation on behalf of Preservation Virginia. « less

I appreciate the soft drink and ice cream station in the middle of the park - it can get muggy along the river in summer time. In the Fort the reenactors did a great job explaining life in colonial Jamestown. The best part was the replica ships. We got to climb in and out and get a feel for life... More

Take a ranger tour and watch the film in the wonderful theatre located in the visitor's center. Then tour the outdoor area on your own. Be sure to go to the archeology building and see "jane" and hear her story. And don't forget to stop at the glass house before you leave the park. This is the perfect place for... More

If you are handicapped and not in a wheel chair, you might think about it before embarking on this tour. I have a bad knee and the walking almost did me in. We also went to the archeological sight because I wanted to see "Jane" and although I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was misery walking back to the car. The... More

I loved the free parking, wine shops, historic area, pier, and beach area. Something for everyone. It is a nice area to visit.

It's always a great trip to visit the past. Jamestowne is always finding great new treasures buried at the old sites on the island. Wonderful for the whole family

Our family enjoyed this archeological site very much. We gained a new respect for the settlers and the native people while talking in their footsteps. Everything was wheelchair accessible from parking, to the visitor center, across the bridge to the monuments, church, dig site, and artifacts museum. The park rangers we met spoke at length about each location, the people,... More

Fantastic tours by the US National Park Service and the private restoration association. The archeological tour showing what's been found and how was great as was the pretour talk describing the happenings and history of Jamestown.

Really enjoyed Jamestown with all the things that are going on there right now with the "digs". Managed to be there when they announced the finding of "Jane" , the cannibalized girl during the Starving Times. The museum there was very interesting! Spent about 4 hours there.

My kids were studying the first colonies in school, so this was an excellent way for them to see history in action.

Jamestown is a great place to walk around. Don't miss the new museum. The exhibit showing the skeletons that have been unearthed is sobering, but you see the reverence with which all human remains are treated. You see the skeletal remains of Jane, the first confirmed victim of cannibalism.
