We went predominantly to see the trains. They had a large number, but only a few that you could actually look inside. The airplane area was closed for repairs, and the car area was all but non existent. Glad this wasn't the only reason for making the trip. More

The Railwalk along the still-pretty-busy tracks is an excellent introduction to this museum. We hadn't known Roanoke was such a RR town, but at one time it had RR works that actually built engines. Have some of the best railroad stuff around, great museum pieces, two of best trains around. Roanoke is the number 1 rail road town in the southwest. More

If you are into vintage railroad equipment, then you are in the right place, also check out the only Panama Canal "Mules" (electric loco) in the US, dates back to 1913. Two clasic N&W Steam Loco's, the J-class #611 is the jewel of the museum for sure. More

It mostly used to be trains but has expanded to include auto and just about any mode of ground transportation. I've been thewre 3 times and it's always changing More

This was the most boring place i've ever been to in my life! I went with my photography class so i'm very into art and taking as well as looking at photography, but i could hardly stay awake. i have been to several art museums and this has been the worst! i don't recommend it unless you are really into... It is an enjoyable experience but would have been much better if more exhibits had been open. Over half of the items that are normally open were closed for maintenance on my last trip. More
