This was very interesting even for a "Westener". The show was very informative. The exhibits were very interesting. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in Civil War history. This highlighted the action of young VMI (Virginia Military Institute) cadets.

I knew little about this site other than it involved VMI. The $10 fee is a fair price given the museum and informative 45 minute video. My wife and I spend a couple hours visiting the museum, walking the battlefield, and learning the history of the location. The basic story is a group of very young VMI cadets wanted to... More

Make sure you understand there are two different places to visit here. This is the place I'd like to review. Go to this VA state website if you're interested in learning more- http://www.virginia.org/Listings/Museums/VirginiaMuseumoftheCivilWarNewMarketBattlefieldStateHistoricalPark/ It was very nice museum, even for a girl! They had a rounded walkways and lots of pictures and old relics from the battle. I really enjoyed... More

The picture is from Virginia Museum of the Civil War and is a monument dedicated to the 54th PA troops. The proprietor of the Battlefield Military Museum likes to make visitors believe he is the only representative of the Battle fought their by the VMI Cadets. He even takes the coupons from the Virginia Museum of the Civil War and... More

This is an obscure battle in the Shenandoah Valley where some cadets from the early years of VMI ended up fighting and dying by chance. The battle field is spread across the highway, and the main museum is on one side near the farmhouse around which the battle was fought. It's a pretty location and the museum itself is a... More

Beautiful view, great picnic spot. Easy access from Interstate 81. Important history and connection to VMI, whose entire corps fought here.

This place tries to lure you into thinking this is the real new market battle field museum which is a bit further up the road and is not only the real thing but far more professionally done. The woman behind the counter worked far too hard in trying to explain away the real museum and trying to tout hers. She... More

We had planned a stop at New Market battlefield on our way home from vacation, following the signs to battlefield we came across the museum.Expecting a collection of civil war memorabilia from the New Market battle we were very disappointed, what we encountered was a mix of artifacts from all different eras with very little civil war to be found. This is not...
