This is must see stop in St. Johnsbury. It is right at the end of the street as you enter St. Johnsbury from the main highway. Can't miss it! There is parking behind it. it is the St. Johsbury Anthenaum, which is a combination library and art gallery and it dates back to 1871 when it was built my the... More

This multi-use building is a stunner, inside and out. Includes an art museum, extensive collections for historical research, and frequently hosts public forums. The Athenaeum also makes a practical launch site for a walking tour of many of St. Johnsbury's iconic buildings designed by talented architect Lambert Packard.

The art collection is interesting and the library is beautiful. Another spot that deserves a visit. The docent that explained the collection knew what he was talking about.

This national landmark, which houses an impressive library and extraordinary collection of art, is a must-see when you visit St. Johnsbury. Call ahead of time to schedule a private tour with one of their volunteer docents -- the art collection is quite extensive, and having a docent lead a tour was a huge plus. At the end of my time... This is a wonderful gallery to visit at the back of the library where you will find hidden treasures rarely seen in a small town. 'The Domes of the Yosemite' by Albert Bierstadt is centre piece but there are many Hudson River style paintings here. Look around in the library itself too - it's a lovely old building with old... This building was recently beautifully restored. The art is throughout the library but as you enter the athenaeum your heart leaps as you see many Hudson River School painter orginal works. This art must be worth millions. We spent 3 hours touring this property a true treasure. Our volunteer dosier spent 30-50 mintues with us explaining the art work and... More

A visit to the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum is a step into wonder of the 19th century -- 19th c. architecture of the library and the 19th c. paintings and art works (American and European). The *wonder* of it all is the *originality* of the architecture, the paneling of the walls, the twisting library steps, the lighting, the flooring, the divisions... More

Traveling through New England, the family was very skeptical about this stop. The kids didn't enjoy, but it's a real local gem for in this town. A wonderful gift to the community by a local philantropist. The docent was knowledgable about the works and the building. Worth the stop.
