Ellen Trout is a great zoo for small children. There is a train that takes the kids around the paramenter of the zoo. The walkways of the zoo are shaded and the selection of animals is great for a zoo its size.

I enjoyed the free roaming peacoks (dozens of them, not just one or two), the trails built through the many habitats that allow children to safely view the animals at close quarters. The little train operated by the zoo was one of our children's favorites, and so it is now with their children.

Ellen Trout Zoo used to be well cared for with nice exhibits. Now it looks like a jungle and is very overpriced for such a small unattractive zoo. Tyler and Houston are worth the trip to see nice ones.

The Ellen Trout Zoo is an absolute joke, even for a small-town zoo. I can't believe it is getting positive reviews. People must have no idea what they're seeing. I've been there several times just to prove to people how unbelievable awful it is. The herps on display are all overfed and probably dying of kidney and liver failure. I've...

Well maintained and amazing amount of animals for a small town zoo. Worth the trip for all ages.

I am biased. I grew up in Lufkin. My folks took me to the zoo often when I was a young girl. My Poppa and I would get the African Crowned Cranes to dance! I miss Hippy and Jamie!

What a special treasure. We took 2 two-year-olds and they had a great time. Easy to see animals, lovely shaded park, pretty train ride. Only one negative, which we will resolve by bringing our own meal, the concession stand has candy, sodas, nachos and frito pie. Nothing for our little ones to eat. Suggest adding hot dog, corn dog or...

It was a clean, shaded zoo. I thought they had a good variety of animals and insects. There was a concession stand with almost any kind of treat a kid could ask for. And a gift shop, too, for memories. Outside the zoo you can go for train ride, fish in the lake or play on several different playgrounds. There...

I have 3 children, all under 8, and they really enjoyed this zoo. I think small zoos work well for smaller children because it is not as much walking as say the Fort Worth Zoo. We try to go every couple of weeks. They have a cute train ride as well that the kids absolutely love. All of their prices...

I have taken my infant daughter there probably six times since we moved to Lufkin in June. It's a great place for a quiet stroll. Lovely vegetation and some excellent exhibits. Just like every place in East Texas in the summer, it IS hot and humid June-Aug., but spring, fall, and even winter are awesome! There a little concession stand...
