It is great to ride, walk on is your best option otherwise grab a soda and snack at the local store (keep some one at wheel and the rest run in). They will let you feed sea gulls on back deck, so bring bread and their favorites of Cheetos and goldfish. Watch for dolphins, look at other ships, and enjoy... More

This was a fun, free ferry ride across the bay to Port Bolivar. Instead of paying for a dolphin tour, just ride the free ferry and enjoy the dolphins as they entertain the spectators. I parked my car and walked on the ferry, went to the top where I stayed until I returned back to Galveston Island. It was very... More

We rode the ferry as walk-ons and then the next day drove our vehicle on. So neat to see cars loading up onto a ferry that travels over water! I didn't know cars traveled like this, seems like highways are the only way to go. But not so! You can DRIVE onto a ferry!! We got to see a few... More

We used this ferry a few times when in Galveston and were knocked out that it was free for both foot passengers and also cars. It wasn't that much of a journey - probably about 10 minutes each way or about an hour's round trip as a foot passenger. Best was seeing a lot of dolphins - maybe not jumping... More

Coming from land-locked Oklahoma, I never got to do anything like this and it was really fun and interesting. We chose to drive on board because we wanted to explore the other side. If you want to see the town of Bolivar and all the attractions there, having a car is a must. There is nothing at all to see... More

Needed to explain to a traveler from the east coast that not only was the ferry free but one could put their car on the ferry. It is a neat way to travel. Didn't wait long and did travel on the weekend.

Kids enjoy the ferry ride, but the waiting sucks!! Waited for almost 2 hours tonight, waiting for 3 ships to come back from Bolvar!

How very convenient to have a free ferry available...and the wait isn't all that long. We often prefer to take the beach road to Galveston because we enjoy the view.

We learned the ferry was part of the texas road system. It is a free ride across Galveston with or without your car. The Bolivar peninsula is a beach community, with several restaurants and beach activities, festivals and such. The pelicans sometimes take the ride with you .. At peak times, the wait with a car is too long, if... More
