I was last in Galveston in 2000 and was pleasantly surprised to see the Strand well maintained with nice parks, good shopping and good places to eat. Everything was clean and well kept. Will definitely be back, and not so long between visits!

We often have out of town company and spend lots of time in Galveston. This is one place we always visit. Lots of cute shops and little restaurants. Great views when the cruise ships are in the harbor.
This was my first time on the Strand and the shops are great!! Most have very reasonably priced items and lots of unique gifts. Very fun!!
Still an awesome place to shop even though they have closed a few
stores since Hurricane Ike. You can find a lot of knick knacks and
specialty items in the stores. Souvenirs are common, many are overpriced. The chocolate stores sell fantastic sweets! It can get really crowded on holidays. Plan on coming around Christmas time to get a glimpse...

As a world traveler I've been in significantly poor countries with public attraction who actually provide public restrooms. As many public areas in Texas, there is emphasis in "if it doesn't make us money, we don’t need it". Us meaning the Texas style businesses and politics that support them. The "Strand" in Galveston island has no visible or advertised public...

Lots of good shopping and food options, I recommend the ones out on the wharf as you can watch the ships go by (the view is a bit industrial, admittedly). Mardi Gras is down here during that season and is worth catching as well
We enjoy browsing through the shops and stopping for a drink. Weekends are busy with cruise traffic.
We always enjoy relaxing and checking out what's new at the shops on the Strand. La Kings is a MUST-we stock up on taffy every time we go and we love the cherry Cokes & milkshakes! If you like dressing up for historical events, some of the antique stores have beautiful costumes for Dickens on the Strand.
thought there would be more stores and activity....but it was okay for for a little afternoon stroll.
Nice assortment of shops and restaurants, snacks etc. Should not be missed by anyone that travels to Galveston.
